About the role within the Avidbots Software QA Team:

This role will be in the Software QA team at Avidbots. The QA team's goal is to ensure that each software release ships with the highest quality code that will work to our customer's complete satisfaction. We have set the bar high and expect to meet or exceed it with every release.

  • This is a unique role within the QA team testing cutting edge path planning and sensor data algorithms.
  • We are looking for someone who is a self-starter, who can take ownership of testing the robot software in-house and also in real world customer environments and can write clear and detailed reports of their findings.
  • You will work closely with our software development teams in a fast-paced Agile environment, working on the cutting edge of robotics, testing everything from path planning and sensor data algorithms to safety systems and performance.
  • Your main tasks will consist of both in-house feature verification testing as well as feature validation testing and exploratory testing at customer sites.
  • The majority of the testing performed at customer sites will take place late in the evening or during the night, so this must be considered when applying for the position.
  • If this piques your interest, we’d love to chat!

Key Accountabilities:

  • Perform hands-on functional, system, performance, stress and regression testing on our different robot models, both in-house and in customer environments.
  • Pay close attention to the performance of the robot and clearly report your findings and observations using supporting data, analysis and summary documentation.
  • Work closely with our software development teams, thoroughly testing new features and bug fixes
  • Write detailed bug reports, collecting all information and details necessary to aid in the speedy resolution of problems.
  • Design and develop well written test cases.
  • Be a creative thinker; testing a product that moves around has a unique set of challenges.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • BEng/BSc in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with peers and superiors, and a strong teamwork ethic.
  • Strong Linux knowledge (CLI, scripting).
  • Awesome attitude, self-driven and self-motivated; you get things done with a passion for continuously raising the quality bar.
  • G Driver’s License.
  • You should be comfortable driving trucks and trailers and loading and unloading heavy equipment onto and off of trailers.

Nice to have:

  • Previous experience working in a QA team.
  • Experience with Robot Operating System (ROS).
  • Previous work with Jenkins, Jira, Git and Bitbucket.
  • Working knowledge of Python, JavaScript, Selenium and Cypress.
